Tata Set to Launch the Punch EV by the End of the Year

Tata Motors, the Indian automaker, has recently launched an updated version of its popular model, the Nexon, as well as an electrified version. The company is now preparing to release a series of updated vehicles, with the Punch EV expected to be launched by the end of this year.

Spy pictures of the Punch EV test mule have surfaced, showing the vehicle being tested on the Mumbai-Pune expressway. Despite the heavy camouflage, it is clear that the Punch EV closely resembles the regular Punch, with some subtle differences. Like other Tata models, such as the Tiago and Nexon, the electric version is expected to feature blue accents throughout its body.

One notable difference revealed in the spy images is the presence of rear disc brakes on the electrified version, replacing the drum brake system seen in the internal combustion engine (ICE) version. With the electric powertrain, additional features like wireless charging and auto hold are anticipated.

Inside the cabin, it is expected that the Punch EV will retain the same 7.0-inch Harman infotainment system found in the regular version. Features such as Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and automatic climate control are also likely to be included. Higher-end variants may even come with a 12.3-inch infotainment screen from the Nexon EV, although an earlier spy picture suggests that Tata Motors will stick with the 7.0-inch screen to differentiate the Punch EV from the Nexon EV.

While specific details about the powertrain are currently unavailable, it is expected that the Punch EV will feature Tata’s Ziptron technology, which has been used in the Tiago EV and Nexon EV. This technology offers different battery pack options with various ranges. Given that the Punch EV is based on the ALFA platform, which has “Born Electric” capabilities, it is likely that it will be Tata Motors’ first true Born Electric car.

Although exact range figures have not been revealed, it is expected that the Punch EV will offer similar range options to the recently introduced Tiago EV, which achieves up to 315 km with a 24 kWh battery pack and up to 250 km with a smaller 19.2 kWh battery pack.

With the imminent launch of the Punch EV, Tata Motors is expanding its lineup of electric vehicles, catering to the growing demand for sustainable mobility options in India.
