Twitter Reclaims @music Account, Angers Former Owner

The longtime @music account on Twitter, which had over half a million followers, was recently reclaimed by the company. Jeremy Vaught, the account’s former owner, expressed his frustration on his personal account, stating that he’s “super pissed” about the situation. The @music account was known for posting new releases and performances from various artists across genres.

Twitter, now known as X, took the @music handle and gave it to their official company music account, previously known as @twittermusic. In an email to Vaught, X explained that they were taking over the account for the company and assigned him the @musicfan handle instead.

This is not the first time X has reclaimed a user handle. Last month, they took over the @X handle from a user when owner Elon Musk officially changed Twitter’s branding.

The social media platform has faced criticism since Musk purchased Twitter and changed its name to X. The company is currently undergoing a total rebrand as it deals with reduced ad revenue.
