Gillett Elementary School Hosts ‘Family Game Night’ with Gnome Games
2 min readOn Monday, March 18th, Gillett Elementary held its first ever ‘Family Game Night’
The idea for Family Game Night came from 5th grade teacher Matt Hohensee. When Mr. Hohensee was a teacher in the Gresham School District, the school hosted a game night with Gnome Games. The Title One Program at Gillett Elementary is required to have a certain number of family engagement times like these, and the game night proved to be a perfect way to fulfill the math requirement. The games were set up in the elementary library where tables and floor games could be set out without crowding the space.
Pat of Gnome Games was very good at engaging people and encouraging them to try a game out
He was constantly on the go making sure there were activities going on for all, and even I was no exception! Before I knew it, I was taking part in a group game with my kids and two of the teachers. Some of the games included in the fun were common ones like checkers and chess. Other games families could enjoy were Giant Jenga, Apples to Apples, The Forbidden Desert, along with “My Very First” games for the littler kids that came to game night. I spoke with Principal Curt Angeli, and not only was he pleasantly surprised at the turnout of the game night, he hopes to hold the event again.
