The Truth About the 2020 Roy Hubbard Memorial Truck Show (and 4th of July Celebration)

After the weeks of lockdown and sorting out what news as true and false in the media, I have had ringside seats to the process of trying to bringing some events to Gillett. One of the signs of life will be taking place next weekend-June 19th and 20th at Zippel Park.

Next weekend will be the Second Annual Roy Hubbard Memorial Truck Show. For a while, the show’s fate for 2020 was uncertain. After heavy discussion and studying, the show’s committee will be using the safety guidelines you see below.

After the plan was submitted, the city council agreed to allow the event to occur. One change since this plan was submitted affects number 13- the committee was asked to not have the picnic tables at the park for the event as a precautionary measure. Because of that, you are also strongly encouraged to bring your own chairs. Registration for trucks goes from 10am to 8pm on Friday ($25.00 registration fee). Music will start at 6pm on Friday with Homegrown, followed by Rapid Transit from 7:30 to 11:30pm. Fireworks will take place at 9:30pm followed by the truck light display.

Saturday Registration will continue from 10am to 2pm with a kids’ bike giveaway at 3:30pm. A craft and vendor show will go from 10am to 4pm, and Outlaw Junkies will be playing from 4-8pm followed by Crossing Paths from 8pm to Midnight. The Truck Parade will take place on Main Street at 9pm.

Gillett’s 2020 4th of July Celebration

After the Civic Club’s committee cited COVID 19 concerns as their reason for cancellation, the Truck Show committee was approached about taking over for 2020. The parade will take place on July 4th, but we will not be doing any judging of floats. If you are interested in having a float in the parade, the committee decided to go with “Saluting our 2020 Seniors” for a theme. We will also be having fireworks at Zippel Park, and anyone interested in donating can send a check made out to Roy Hubbard Memorial Truck Show to: RHMTS
P.O. Box 64
Gillett, WI 54124
ATTN: Fireworks

Or you can drop leave a donation with any truck show committee member.  If you donate with a check, please be sure to include “Fireworks” on the memo line, as the committee has an account especially for the fireworks.   The truck show committee members are:

Joshua Arndt-President, Mike Lambrecht-Vice President, Wendy Vorpahl-Secretary, Jenny Neumann-Treasurer, Scott Wolfe-Board Member, Mark Winkler-Board Member Jeffrey Thomson-Board Member

At this time, another community organization is working on having something at the park between the parade and the fireworks.  More will follow in a future post from me.

Social Distancing

If you do attend, please know that it is at your own risk. The committee does understand that some may not feel comfortable attending the events even with the precautions we are taking. If you are not comfortable with attending, please know that we would respect your wishes to not attend.
