Ferraro Family Sues Fire Island Village for Privacy Breach

The family of Geraldine Ferraro, the first female vice presidential nominee of a major American political party, is suing the village of Saltaire in Fire Island. The lawsuit alleges that an appraiser entered their waterfront property without permission and took numerous photos, violating their privacy.

According to the lawsuit filed in Brooklyn Federal Court, the appraiser, John E. Grossman Associates, took 60 photos of the interior and exterior of the property in January 2022. The homeowner argues that this was done in “bad faith” as similar homes in the area did not receive the same attention. The lawsuit claims that the photos have made private information about the property public, such as where the residents and children sleep, the presence of a dock, and how to access the property. The family asserts that this is an outrageous breach of their privacy.

The property is owned by Village People LLC, with Geraldine Ferraro’s widower, John A. Zaccaro, residing in a Manhattan home and their son, John A. Zaccaro Jr., serving as the lawyer who filed the legal action. The Zaccaro family is seeking $300,000 in damages from the village of Saltaire, a small summer community with approximately 400 homes.

Geraldine Ferraro, who passed away in 2011, and John Zaccaro were married for 50 years and had three children. While the family seeks justice for the invasion of their privacy, it is important to note that both John A. Zaccaro and John A. Zaccaro Jr. had their own legal troubles in the past.

A lawyer representing the village of Saltaire has declined to comment on the matter.
