Jackson County Suspends the use of UTVs for the Remainder of the 2019 Season
UTV’s will NOT be allowed on Jackson County trails for the remainder of the 2019 snowmobiling season
On Monday, February 2019 Jackson County Parks & Trails announced their decision to suspend the use of UTVs for the remainder of the 2019 season snowmobiling season through a Facebook post:
“After careful consideration and discussion with internal staff and law enforcement, we have decided to suspend the use of UTV’s for the remainder of the season. The damage done over the weekend is too dangerous to the other users of the trail, and grooming the trails is pointless. We will be permanently reevaluating use of UTVs in the winter which may require banning their use when trails are snow covered. The photo below shows what just ONE UTV did to the trail on Friday.”
Within hours hundreds of people voiced their opinions in the comments
While most voiced their support for the decision like Paul Hammond who said “Good decision. Snowmobiles only usually have a few weeks out of the year if they are lucky. I think the UTV and ATV can live a few weeks without trails. Also as a groomer operator I would hate to see a nice smooth trail get destroyed rite away.” But, not all are happy with Jackson County Parks & Trails decision: “So you actually get one winter with decent snow and now you want to turn away all the people that have been supporting the local business the last few years when there was no snow?” responded Paul Mooney.
A few hours after publishing their post, which now has more than 500 shares and 200 comments, Jackson County Parks & Trails responded in the comments: “There is some confusion about the posting. Please read the entire post. It says “We will be permanently re-evaluating the use of UTV’s (and ONLY UTV’s) in the winter WHICH MAY REQUIRE BANNING THEIR USE WHEN THE TRAILS ARE SNOW COVERED.”
