Canadian developer, Jesta Group, has unveiled plans to convert the iconic Clevelander Hotel and Bar on Miami Beach’s Ocean Drive into a 30-story apartment tower, with a focus on providing affordable housing options. The 85-year-old property was acquired by Jesta in 2018 and is one of several hospitality properties owned by the company in South Florida.
Established in Montreal in 1992, Jesta Group is an international commercial property investor and developer. They currently own approximately 20 properties, including shopping centers and hotels in various locations such as Miami, Texas, Montreal, Paris, Berlin, Toronto, and the United Kingdom.
In addition to the Clevelander Hotel and Bar on Ocean Drive, Jesta Group also owns other notable properties in the Miami area, including the Essex House Hotel on Collins Avenue, The Stiles Hotel on Collins Avenue, and the Best Western Hotel and Shuckers Bar & Grill in North Bay Village.
Jesta Group is also involved in a major redevelopment project in North Bay Village, where they are investing $300 million to transform the iconic Shuckers Bar & Grill and Best Western properties. The project will involve the construction of a 30-story high-rise, featuring 345 apartments and 273 hotel rooms. To support the local community, 18 of the apartments will be designated for local workers and offered at discounted rents.
North Bay Village, which consists of Harbor, North Bay, and Treasure islands linked by bridges, serves as a connection between the mainland and Miami Beach’s Normandy Isles neighborhood. The village has a rich history, with its heyday during the 1950s when renowned performers such as Frank Sinatra and Judy Garland graced its stages.
Overall, Jesta Group’s plans to convert the Clevelander Hotel into an affordable housing tower and their redevelopment project in North Bay Village demonstrate their commitment to providing housing options for various income levels while revitalizing iconic properties in the Miami area.
