The Increasing Demand for Properties in Alabama Lakes

The demand for properties in Alabama lakes is on the rise, with lakes such as Smith, Martin, and Logan Martin seeing increased interest from buyers. According to Glenn Phillips, CEO and principal economic analyst at Lake Homes Realty, most of the houses for sale in Alabama are located in larger lakes.

The largest property markets in Alabama, based on the number of houses for sale, include Lewis Smith, Martin, Logan Martin, Guntersville, Weiss, and Wedowee. However, there are also hundreds of houses for sale in smaller lakes throughout the state, as well as numerous land parcels for sale.

When asked about the popularity of different lakes, Phillips highlighted that larger lakes tend to be more popular due to the abundance of activities, boat traffic, and nearby amenities. In Alabama, Smith and Martin are the two largest and most active lakes, attracting the highest number of people. However, smaller lakes are also sought after by those looking for a quieter retreat. These lakes may not allow motorized boats or may have restrictions on boat size, making them ideal for those seeking a peaceful getaway.

In addition to lakes in more remote areas, there are also lakes within suburban communities such as Highland Lakes on Highway 280 in Birmingham, as well as Lake Cyrus and Trace Lake in Hoover. These lakes offer a waterfront experience with limited activities such as fishing, kayaking, and boating.

According to Lake Homes Realty, Alabama ranks ninth among the top 10 states in the country with the highest number of houses and land parcels for sale in lakes. The demand for properties in Alabama lakes is expected to continue growing in the coming years.
