Demolition Drive Continues in Violence-Hit Nuh District

The demolition drive in violence-hit Nuh district of Haryana has entered its third day, with authorities demolishing illegal constructions on 2.6 acres of land around Nalhar Medical College in the state. In addition to the medical college, around 15 other temporary structures were also demolished.

“These were illegal constructions,” said Sub Divisional Magistrate Ashwani Kumar. Notices had previously been given to the owners of the structures, some of whom were involved in the violence during the Braj Mandal religious yatra. The demolition drive is set to continue.

The demolition drive, which started from Adbar Chowk, is expected to continue till Tiranga Chowk. The violent clashes in the Muslim-dominated Nuh district occurred during the Braj Mandal Yatra organized by Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP). Six people, including two home guards and a cleric, lost their lives in the clashes. Gurugram, too, witnessed stray incidents of clashes.

Curfew has been relaxed in Nuh, allowing people to buy essential goods from noon to 3 pm. According to the police, 56 FIRs have been registered so far in connection with the VHP procession violence. 145 people have been arrested, and 10 people have been charged with spreading rumors on social media.

In addition to the ongoing demolition drive in Nuh district, about 250 shanties on encroached government land in Tauru town and other areas have been bulldozed. Haryana Home Minister Anil Vij has indicated that these demolitions are part of the action being taken against those involved in the communal clashes.
