Nicole Bascomb-Green, a prominent figure in the real estate and banking industry, has been appointed as the new chair of the Washington State Housing Finance Commission. Governor Jay Inslee made the announcement, highlighting Bascomb-Green’s extensive experience and commitment to serving marginalized communities.
Bascomb-Green has over 30 years of experience in the banking, real estate, and non-profit sectors. She previously served as the head of Umpqua Bank’s Community Lending Division and also owned and operated Bascomb Real Estate Group. Throughout her career, she has prioritized education and community building, particularly focusing on historically marginalized communities, including the Black community.
In addition to her professional roles, Bascomb-Green holds several leadership positions within real estate organizations. She is the president of the Western Washington Realtists, which is the local board of the National Association of Real Estate Brokers (NAREB). NAREB, founded by Black real estate professionals, is the oldest minority trade organization in the country. Bascomb-Green is also the assistant vice president for NAREB’s Region XV.
Bascomb-Green is actively involved in various community initiatives. She is a core team member of the Black Home Initiative and serves as the secretary of the Northwest Multiple Listing Service. Furthermore, she holds board memberships in organizations such as HomeSight, the Urban League of Metropolitan Seattle, and the UW Consulting and Business Development Center.
Steve Walker, the executive director of the Washington State Housing Finance Commission, expressed his excitement about Bascomb-Green’s new role and commended her predecessor, Bill Rumpf, for his leadership. The commission aims to expand its work and values under the guidance of Bascomb-Green.
